Bright Minds
April 2024
Help us congratulate our April grant recipient, Bright Minds! Bright Minds is a no-cost K12 tutoring program that supports the underprivileged and under-resourced students in Westminster.
The founder of the program, Kayla Solinsky, believes that all students are brilliant and deserve an opportunity to succeed academically. Bright Minds is a way to give back to under-resourced K12 students with educational programming at no cost in four sections:
- a) weekly tutoring
- b) student newspaper
- c) STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programming
- d) educational enrichment Bright Minds actively works with community partners to provide students with the technology (hardware and software) to express themselves creatively.
For instance, they work with the Carroll Technology & Innovation Council to provide laptops to low income families who want to use ABCmouse, Prodigy, and IXL. They work with the Good Stuff podcast to share audio recording and editing skills with students and also partner with the Hill Y in Westminster to provide students with a space to learn and grow.
Kayla goes on to say, “We hope to work with the Boys and Girls Club in Westminster to help even more students reach academic success. As a project, Bright Minds is very community minded. We align with other amazing organizations with the hope of reaching all students in Westminster.”
